ArchWiki goals

The primary objective of ArchWiki is to give Arch Linux user community the most comprehensive and the most accessible documentation. It is also a world-wide project with many participants from all parts of the world. Unlike the Arch Linux project itself, this project does not need to be necessarily small. Actually, it is growing into quite a large project. However, it it still the The Arch Way to keep things simple. It may not seem simple at first, but we are still working on it, experimenting with interesting ideas, so there is much room for improvements.

Comprehensive ArchWiki

The primary objective or ArchWiki is to cover all aspects of computing using Arch Linux. From surfing the Internet, to creating a working web server, to managing corporate networks... anything Arch Linux can possibly be used for is the scope of ArchWiki.

Accessible ArchWiki

Although the primary goal of ArchWiki may be a big one, and the number of articles to achieve it may run into tens of thousands, ArchWiki needs to offer a simple and intuitive way of accessing all the information. This is not a simple task, but we will be working towards achieving this as well, using our typical Arch ingenuity and imagination.

How does it work

ArchWiki is maintained by several sysops and administrators, maintainers and many more contributors. They edit the ArchWiki contents, and organize the articles to bring you the best Arch Linux documentation out there.

Most articles are not written by a single person, but represent a cumulative effort of many people that correct erroneous information, update outdated articles, and otherwise keep improving the ArchWiki contents.

How can you help

ArchWiki is maintained by volunteers. Maintainers are never too numerous, and help is always needed. If you value your skills above any financial gain or other personal interests, consider donating some of your energy to the community.

We are always on the lookout for technical writers, editors, graphic artists, and administrators. Please see WikiTodo and Priority Todo pages to find out what you want to do. Coordinate your activities with these people. Tasks on ArchWiki can roughly be divided into following:

Technical maintenance

Currently we are facing minor difficulties on the technical side of ArchWiki. We are short of technical maintainers, and help is most welcome in this area. Talk to Rasat or Dusty if you want administrative privileges, or want to contribute fixes. Graphic artists may also contact the admins.

Content management

Sorting out pages, categorizing them, and moving around has become a major task for all wiki maintainers because we are trying to implement the new ArchWiki Category Tree (to see the new tree in action, take a look at the English section). Currently, Foxbunny and other sysops are trying to coordinate the move (you may also contact Foxbunny at fox2bunny(at)yahoo.co.uk, his dedicated e-mail address).

Content editing

Content editing, proofreading, and updates are never-ending tasks on any wiki. If you want to help, just register an account and start performing your magic.

Content creation

Talk to any of the sysops and/or admins to coordinate content creation. Make sure you understand the philosophy of ArchWiki, and think about what you want to write about and what others may want to read. As we already mentioned, the scope is quite wide, so most topics are okay. Read the pages inside Help section for articles on content creation.

Brainstorming

Even if you do not have ideas about what to write, or you feel awkward about editing other people's work (it's perfectly normal to feel that way at first, though), you may contribute by posting ideas and suggestions at Forum, Wiki & AUR Discussion section of Arch Linux Forums.

Contacts

See the ContactList for a list of ArchWiki coordinators.

How to work with ArchWiki

First of all, read the ArchWiki Tutorial. Then go to the Help section of the Tools section. The former contains the guidelines and howtos on various aspects of ArchWiki writing and editing. The latter (Tools section) contains some articles on how ArchWiki works and resources that may help you with many decisions.
