[edit] Summary

The Dell XPS M1530 works almost out of the box, just like its little brother de Dell XPS M1330.

[edit] Works

  • Video:
    • nvidia
    • nv
  • Sound
When using Kernel 2.6.25.4-1 you have to add the String "options snd_hda_intel model=dell-3stack"
 to a new file in /etc/modprobe.d/ (e.g. /etc/modprobe.d/dellsound)
 It's an ALPS touchpad
To get it working correct you have to add "i8042.nomux=1" to your kernel (in the /boot/grub/menu.lst)
 (kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/cf732cd7-6dd2-c6fa086eb765 ro i8042.nomux=1)

  • Ethernet:
Must use the last kernel. "Arch 2007.8-2 Dont Panic" default kernel wont work.
  • Wi-fi:
Works out of the box with current kernel. With the 2007.8-2 ISO you need the iwlwifi ipw4965 package.
  • Bluetooth:
Need to install bluez (details to come)
  • Multimedia keys
Havent managed to get them to work after a reboot (didnt spent much time either. details to come)
  • Remote
Same as multimedia keys. Works. Tested, but no permanent configuration found yet.
  • Webcam:
 Works with UVC (linux-uvc-svn)
  • Internal microphone (digital mic)
Cant get it to work yet. There is a patch from Dell for Ubuntu kernel.
  • External microphone (mic in)
Cant get it to work either, at least not loud enough and stable enough.
  • External VGA output
 Works
  • USB
 Works
  • DVD-RW

  • Memory Sticks Reader / SD cards / MMC
 (Works)
 MemoryStick PRO Duo won't work
  • Fingerprint reader
 Works with thinkfinger
