Talk:ABS - The Arch Build System
From ArchWiki
I think this article is misleading because it implies that AUR and pacman are part of ABS. It should really follow the definition outlined in /var/abs/README -- Louipc 15:48, 14 March 2008 (EDT)
- Alright I edited the article a bit to make it clearer that AUR is not part of ABS -- Louipc 16:02, 14 March 2008 (EDT)
In my case, there was no directory called "local" under /var/abs, thus resulting in errors when trying to follow the instructions on copying the PKGBUILD files from the ABS tree to the local tree. Should this be updated, or is my case an isolated incident? --Thayer (Sunday, 15 July 2007)

you must create the local directory yourself if you need it -- marco.it (17 July 2007)

As of 2007-11-05 csup was "replaced" by cvsup. The section that mentions cvsup should be updated accordingly (I mention it here because I am not sure whether there should be an extra note next to cvsup or if it should be removed completely from the document).

Alright. As mentioned there I'm volunteering for bringing this into shape again. Some points:
- Completely erase all traces of /var/abs/local throughout the whole wiki, I see no point in using this directory. Before it was the permissions crap, now it's even nonexistant by default. Do makepkg stuff in a fresh and clean hierachy in /home/foo, /tmp or whatever but don't clutter existing dirs. Now I heard cvsup is bound to die and abs turning into either a rsync or svn solution... anyone remember the mess in /var/abs with the current->core move?
- Normal updates, like cvsup>csup, the advent of the base-devel group and so on
- kill all that copy/paste cruft, mention manpages instead, link to ViewCVS... there's no need to accumulate all wisdom and every option on one article
Thoughts?
