[edit] is it needed?

Does it make sense to compare Arch to mandrake, suse, ubuntu...? They are completely different distros than arch and suitable mainly for click-click users whereas arch is a bit hardcore ;) --Pholie

not really "needed", but it doesn't hurt to write some neutral comparing words here for newbies in linux who are searching for comparings --Dp 10:41, 1 Aug 2005 (EDT)
Yes it does make sense. Though 'contrast' is probably a better word for it than 'compare' :) Of course, it is important for people to know the difference, especially if they are looking to use arch, it's better if they know how it compares to others. --Neotuli 16:59, 13 Aug 2005 (EDT)

[edit] Arch and Rubix

Rubix is a fairly new i486 distro based on Slackware. It would be interesting to see it compared to Arch.

[edit] As for Ubuntu...

It should be noted that Ubuntu forces you to move between discrete releases, whereas Arch allows your system to stay continually up-to-date by means of the "current" repository. At least that's the reason why i made the switch.

[edit] Frugalware

Frugalware used to be based on Slackware. It's no longer the case. They say Frugalware is it's own distro now (just like how Arch is no longer based on other distros), and it's i686. -UnbreakableMJ 08:59, 25 May 2007 (EDT) Note, that FW has a number of installation methods besides CD/DVD, eg. netinstall, pendrive and chroot packages. salmonix

[edit] on Gentoo

Properly optimized gcc to the particular platform and selected dependencies surely make Gentoo more responsive and faster, but the opposite can be true with a bloated make.config.

[edit] Adding distros

I'm wondering what's stopping this page from getting out of hand? I think we should restrict the comparisons maybe to some of the top distros plus a few distros that Arch Linux has similarities with. -- Louipc 23:13, 28 May 2008 (EDT)

Suggestions: Remove Rock, Minix, Zenwalk, GoboLinux -- Louipc 23:25, 28 May 2008 (EDT)
