When I first considered posting this to the wiki I rejected merging this quick start with the main LIRC article. I decided this was too long -- by vertical space almost as long as the existing article.

Do others agree? Perhaps this is also a layout issue (see below)? -- Cmsigler (talk) 16:52, 10 August 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

My issue is that LIRC and LIRC/Quick start guide overlap and that their separation is somewhat arbitrary (both have Installation, Configuration & Troubleshooting). If LIRC is unclear it should be revised / expanded. --Larivact (talk) 17:30, 10 August 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh, you want me to do the HARD work?! *chuckle* OK, I hear you. When I have time I'll see if I can't incorporate this quick start info into the main LIRC page. Your proposal makes good sense. LIRC itself could use some love. It only gets a few edits each year and would probably benefit from more input.
Also note that kernel-based IR decoding using BPF is headed our way sooner than later. I'm sure LIRC will be legacy-supported for a long time, but a new method of using IR control under Linux will need documentation. -- Cmsigler (talk) 20:04, 10 August 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
