About Screen Brightness

For me this is working:

My Setup:

i3 4.14.1 window manager

/etc/acpi/screen-u
event=video/brightnessup
action=DISPLAY=:0.0 sudo -u eike xbacklight -inc 5

I have not installed acpilight. So this may be not necessary anymore.

Can anyone confirm?

Cheers.

UEFI/Legacy Boot

When this configuration was set to "Both", fwupd did not trigger any upgrades. It was only resolved once this configuration was set to "UEFI Only". Can someone please confirm, so that we can update both sections UEFI and fwupd on this page? —This unsigned comment is by Iron houzi (talk) 08:53, 11 February 2019 (UTC). xf86-video-intel broken, not needed anymore

As I encountered today, xf86-video-intel is broken with 5.4.8.a-1 since it leads to a complete system freeze(changing tty not possible, hard reset needed) when a QT application is opened. It might behave that way with other applications too, can't confirm it.

Falling back to the suggested modesettings of Xorg did the trick and the system is working stable again. Also backlight is working with modesettings. Should we get rid of the hint of using xf86-video-intel?

Fingerprint Reader: Linux-native way of initializing...

I haven't seen this in the latest releases of libfprint2, but there is a method for enrolling fingerprint data into the Validity Sensors 138a:0097 device only using Linux. The way to do so is here:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/3v1n0/libfprint/-/tree/vfs0090-libfprint2

Now, this didn't work for me, as the fingerprint device returns a data structure that doesn't match the expected size/length. Someone forked this project and provide a fix for this:

https://github.com/piotrekzurek/libfprint

I'm still waiting for this to be accepted upstream, but you shouldn't need Windows anymore to initialize this fingerprint reader. I did have to set up a pacman hook to rebuild and reinstall this patched libfprint project every time a new kernel is installed, but my fingerprint reader has been working like a charm ever since.

The method listed on the wiki page is outdated. However I was able to get it working with a different AUR package python-validityAUR and using the repository README to get it working. So the wiki page should probably be updated.

@Incon: Can you update the wiki with the steps you used with python-validityAUR? I will probably adopt this method since my method isn't very well maintained. I don't think I need to initialize my fingerprint reader, but I wouldn't mind keeping fprintd up to date (I have "IgnorePkg = fprintd" in /etc/pacman.conf for now). With linux 6.0.1 my hacked version of libfprint no longer works. It loses the connection to the fingerprint reader almost immediately (the LED lights up for maybe 250ms and then crashes). So I installed python-validityAUR and followed that project's README.md. I will update the wiki page with this information. Ectospasm (talk) 02:34, 20 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Laptop Stub Discussion

@DerpishCat How does this article not follow the Laptop wiki guidelines? Please elaborate. Ectospasm (talk) 01:42, 1 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I have just updated the template to reflect the reason why this page was flagged. "Stub" was indeed a bit generic. The sub sections for the variations of this model can be a bit problematic since this is a special case but they only contain useless lsusb/lspci dumps anyways and can be removed in my opinion.
