Notation for IPv6
I tried bracket notation for ipv6 dns server. It didn't work. I tried with no bracket notation (as described on man page) and it worked.
Please check this issue and possibly change the note.
- I can't check it for myself, as I don't have an IPv6 connection, but according to
man resolv.conf: "Internet address of a name server that the resolver should query, either an IPv4 address (in dot notation), or an IPv6 address in colon (and possibly dot) notation as per RFC 2373."
- So it says nothing about bracket notation, I'll remove the note! --Lonaowna (talk) 12:27, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
Cleaning up how we list providers and servers
I don't know that we actually have to show an example configuration file for every provider listed here. We could show one example on how to set up the file, and then just either create a table with the DNS info, or just link to the source where the user can get the IP address. Thoughts? - I vote for keeping them. The use-for-free DNS alternatives are often not that easy to find. If we only link out, the links will change frequently and users end up digging the marketing pages of the providers for the actual free IPs. Then they have different features (some filter, some don't, some IPv6 some don't), users may have different preferences (e.g. some google, some not). More reader friendly to keep the IPs blocks for copy-paste. --Indigo (talk) 15:23, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
