Sorry for the slow answer.

The point of the article was to show ways to allow programs to continue working after the user log-off freeing the workstation for other users.

If you start a second X server; start an application inside it; lock the secondary X server (via xlock); return to the first X server and leave it in the login manager to other users will be able to use the computer without problems.

Said that, I am not very keen to edit the article as it has been marked for deletion. Obviously few people sharing a workstation it is not a common situation.
