Hi, I undid your good faith changes to the pacman page because both of the provided solutions will just lead to more problems. Symlinking libraries leaves untracked files lying around, and will cause programs you build locally to link against the wrong files. Running pacman -S libarchive after doing a partial upgrade where pacman expects the new libarchive will cause all other programs that use libarchive to break, because they still link against the old version. Partial upgrades are a very common problem, and it seems they weren't covered on the page, so it's understandable that you didn't know they weren't supported and encountered the issues. thestinger 23:27, 4 July 2011 (EDT)
