hybrid-suspend

Hi, thanks for your contribution to Suspend_and_Hibernate#Delayed_hibernation. Please have a look at (1) the merge tag I have added. Additinally, I have the following suggestions: (2) I think naming it "hybrid-sleep" or "Suspend to both" (see this in the article intro at Suspend_and_Hibernate) would be better. (3) The standard systemd method of using the hybrid-sleep should be mentioned. For this it might be helpful to provide some pros/cons of using the standard and your custom service, (4) I think a short warning should be added for users of laptops with harddisks (you dont want to carry your laptop when it suddenly wakes up to go to hybrid). What do you think? --Indigo (talk) 18:41, 23 July 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks! Regarding your suggestions:
(1) Yes, I'll move it to the other page, thanks.
(2) I disagree, since "hybrid-sleep" or "suspend to both" is different than this delayed hibernation. The difference with the delayed hibernation is that it performs a "plain" suspend (so it's faster than hybrid-sleep), then later wakes up and performs a "plain" hibernation.
(3) Explaining the pros/cons of these two approaches is a good idea since they similar but have important differences.
(4) Good idea to warn, I'll add that in.

I updated Suspend_and_Hibernate#Delayed_hibernation to leave a small description and link to Power_management#Hybrid_sleep, which contains more description and the systemd service. I think it could use a little bit of polish since (1) I discuss hybrid-sleep even though it's already described at the top of Suspend_and_Hibernate and (2) it discusses systemd sleep hooks but it's not until the next section that sleep hooks are actually explained.

Well, Suspend_and_Hibernate#systemd crosslinks to the other section/article before. The remainder of new section Suspend_and_Hibernate#Delayed_hibernation stands alone there after the initramfs creation (out of context).
For (my 2) above: I was wrong, remembering the pm-utils "suspend_hybrid" method which I used sometime. If you move the contribution, you could explain the difference to the systemd hybrid-sleep which is referred to on Power management a number of times. just like you do above. --Indigo (talk) 19:42, 23 July 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
edit: I have now seen your move to Power_management#Hybrid_sleep and understand what you write above about the sleep hooks and order. I suggest the following: (a) Move the main contribution down to a new section after Power_management#Sleep_hooks. (b) remove the subsection header #hybrid_sleep and shorten the first paragraph where you explain the difference of your custom one to explain "hybrid_sleep" and "Delayed hibernation". That way we cover all methods on the page and the standard "systemd sleep hooks" are detailed on first, followed by the custom one. --Indigo (talk) 20:04, 23 July 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
edit2: I implemented what I tried to explain above with: moving the hook and removing the stub section.
What do you think? Does it cover what you referred to in your last comment better? --Indigo (talk) 19:39, 24 July 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, looks great, thanks! Richli (talk) 05:29, 27 July 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ok, closing this (so this talk can be purged). --Indigo (talk) 07:54, 27 July 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
