This article describes the use of Brother DCP-7030 (multi function laser copier printer) on Archlinux.

Installation

This section describes the steps required to successfully install and configure your MFP.

Tip: There is an instruction for both printing and scanning features. You should not install the appropriate packages if you do not need one of them
/etc/udev/rules.d/10-usbprinter.rules
ATTR{idVendor}=="04f9", ATTR{idProduct}=="01ea", MODE:="0664", GROUP:="lp", ENV{libsane_matched}:="yes"
  • Install cups package for printing and sane package for scanning
  • Install GUI for scanning if necessary
  • Enable service org.cups.cupsd.service or socket org.cups.cupsd.socket
  • Reboot your system. After that scanner should work
  • Go to http://localhost:631 and setup your printer. All settings there is very simple, the main thing you must check - paper size set to "A4"
    Note: Look at CUPS#Configuring article for information about other methods

Troubleshooting

Software cannot use the scanner

The unit will print but not scan when plugged into some USB 3.0 ports. Use a USB 2.0 port for the printer or disable USB 3.0 by blacklisting the xhci_hcd module if necessary.

I cannot print anything from LibreOffice

If you can print a test page from http://localhost:631, but can't print anything from LibreOffice, try to install a2ps.
