This document tells you how to tweak FAM's configuration so that it works for GNOME and KDE. FAM is the File Alteration Monitor that GNOME and KDE use by default. At the moment it is not configured to work out of the box.

Install Packages

# pacman -Sy fam

Configure FAM

Edit /etc/fam/fam.conf and change this line:

# idle_timeout = 5

To:

idle_timeout = 0

Start FAM at boot

Now edit your /etc/rc.conf file and add network, portmap, and fam to the array of startup DAEMONS.

If you don't want to reboot yet:

# /etc/rc.d/network start
# /etc/rc.d/portmap start
# /etc/rc.d/fam start

Done.
