irssi is a modular, text based (ncurses) IRC client.

  • Simply run as root:
# pacman -S irssi

  • Configuration is done by editing the config file located at ~/.irssi/config. If you wish you could start irssi with an alternate config file like this:
$ irssi --config=FILE

Installing a Script

  • Let's install the spell checking script
  • In a terminal
# pacman -Sy ispell
$ mkdir -p ~/.irssi/scripts/autorun
$ cd ~/.irssi/scripts
$ wget .
# perl -MCPAN -e 'install Lingua::Ispell'
$ irssi
/script load
  • If it worked, it should look like this:
- - Irssi: Loaded script spell

PROTIP: Alt + s will now spell check your current line.

If you want to autorun the script when you start irssi, just link the script into the autorun folder.

$ cd ~/.irssi/scripts/autorun
$ ln -s ../ .
