In general it was easy to install Arch Linux on the Lenovo ThinkPad SL510.

Used Model

I don't know if it depends on the model, but I feel obliged to say that this article is tested with a NSL7MGE (2847-7MG).

This works automatically

  • Hard drive
  • Keyboard
  • Touchpad (without scrolling!)
  • Trackpoint
  • Screen(-resolution)
  • Elan
  • Wlan
  • Sound
  • Webcam

This doesn't work yet

  • ThinkVantage-Button
  • Mute-Button (even with the following fixes you cannot control the line-out signal, but this is going to be fixed in a new alsa-release):
# workaround:
rmmod thinkpad_acpi; modprobe thinkpad_acpi enable=0 # Everything works fine, except muting the line-out-port too.
# See also this bug-report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/595896 (there is a patched thinkpad_acpi at post #74)
