{{ic|/etc/locale.conf}} is the system configuration file for [[Locale|locale settings]]. Its {{ic|LANG}} variable takes precedence over the {{ic|LOCALE}} variable from {{ic|[[rc.conf|/etc/rc.conf]]}}.
If {{ic|DAEMON_LOCALE=no}} (deprecated) is set in {{ic|rc.conf}}, then the settings in {{ic|locale.conf}} do not apply to daemons started via {{ic|rc.d}}.
{{ic|/etc/locale.conf}} contains a new-line separated list of environment variable assignments. It supports {{ic|LANG}} as well as all the {{ic|LC_*}} variables, with the exception of {{ic|LC_ALL}}. The format is shared with [[systemd]].
