Read/Write access to NTFS parttion.

This document tells you how to get Read/Write access to a windows NTFS partition using Captive-NTFS.

Notes

If you are using kernels 2.6.10 or 2.6.11 you need to patch it with the following file: http://www.datiku.com/documents/files/export_kpi.diff

Add Repository

Read Server configuration and add the following server

  ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/tur/punkrockguy318

Install Packages

  # pacman -S captive

Aquire ntfs.sys and ntoskrnl.exe

Run the following in a terminal as root

  # captive-install-acquire

Click on Forward, Skip, Skip, Yes, Start the download. After downloading part of the file it will give an error message that you can safely ignore.

Preparing some config files

  # /usr/share/lufs/prepmod

Make a directory where you would like to mount the partition (i.e:/mnt/windows) Then add the entry to /etc/fstab It could be in one of these two formats

  #/dev/hdb1 /mnt/windows captive-ntfs defaults,users,uid="user" 0 0

or

  #/dev/discs/disc1/part1 /mnt/windows captive-ntfs defaults,users,uid="user" 0 0

Replace "user" with your username without the quotes. If you dont want to give write access to normal users, delete it.

Mount

  # mount /mnt/windows
