This article describes how to configure SNMPD after installation.

Snmpd Installation

To install snmpd, simply install net-snmp

# pacman -S net-snmp

Snmpd Configuration

The net-snmp package only provide a minimal configuration file in /var/net-snmp/snmpd.conf. This file should not be modified.

You may use the snmpconf command to generate your snmpd.conf file:

# snmpconf -g basic_setup

The file will be generated in your current directory. Move it in one of the directories of the SNMPCONFPATH (net-snmp-config --snmpconfpath).

Hosts Access

You need to authorize the snmp traffic to income in your machine. Edit the /etc/hosts.allow file and add an entry for the snmpd daemon with the authorized addresses.

Snmpd daemon

Start SNMPD with the rc.d script. Add it to your /etc/rc.conf if needed.
