Merge with NTP

Perhaps this should be merged with NTP? I'd like some feedback on this as I'm not totally sure, but it seems reasonable given how minimal of an NTP implementation this is. --User:Pyroh

I'm against because then we should also merge OpenNTPD and Chrony and restructure the whole NTPd article because currently it's about the official server/client implementation (which is alternative to the others), not about the protocol in general. -- Kynikos (talk) 01:31, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
I'm fine with that, I can get started if you don't mind. --Pyroh (talk) 03:03, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
"Get started" merging everything into one article? I don't think that's a solution, the resulting article would be too long and heterogeneous. I'm still in favour of leaving this article as it is, in absence of other better ideas. -- Kynikos (talk) 03:26, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
I thought you were implying you were against this only if it was a solo merge with NTP, not if all articles were to be merged. I suppose you're right, the same argument applies for why connman isn't merged with NetworkManager.
--Pyroh (talk) 05:00, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
Yep, sorry for not being clear in my other post. And yes, articles on connection managers are an analogous example. Closing and removing the merge template. -- Kynikos (talk) 05:20, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
I think it makes more sense to turn NTP into a meta-page describing the various alternatives rather than redirecting to the page for a specific implementation. thestinger (talk) 11:24, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
What I've done is create Time#Time synchronization (+ several other edits to related articles), now what's left to do is change all the generic Special:WhatLinksHere/Network Time Protocol daemon redirects to point there, and fix the articles that where using them to refer to the specific ntpd implementation.
Another thing, I've left the introduction to the 11-minute mode in the description of ntpd only, because I'm not sure if the other implementations activate it. If you've got more information, please update the article or let me know here.
