:::You know what, now it's me who agrees with your initial request to delete the article. While a general article for autostarting applications would be an ideal and KISS solution, I think in practice it would be hardly feasible, and would require much less KISS ways of linking it from the various articles, since not all applications can make use of all the existing ways for autostarting, some require user privileges, other require root's, some require X, others don't, some would require to be autostarted together with other applications, or before, or after, and all these things should be specified in the text linking to this article. It's much better to leave autostarting to WMs' articles, and Daemon, and whatever else. I think we can mark this article for deletion, unless somebody else has something to add. -- Kynikos 05:01, 24 June 2011 (EDT)

::::Keep in mind that, as I was searching for a way to autostart an application, I used the search term autostart and this article came up. I didn't think of going to the LXDE#Autostart_Programs wiki for the anwser. Didn't know of .desktop files before this article. Without the title matching it would take longer, I think. If you delete this article please make sure it is easy to find how to autostart a program.--PlaneTeeR 13:57, 14 July 2011 (EDT)

General discussion

I don't see the purpose of this article - whether it's going to be about session-managers for starting apps, or just general startup program howto's. I think an article of this scope would be unnecessary rework, since this is already covered in many article sections. Suggest marking this article for deletion, as it is a stub that only refers to other articles -- Roygbiv 14:27, 17 June 2011 (EDT)

What would you think of using this article in the vein of pacman, AUR, Daemon, Kernel modules... so that when in an article it says to autostart an application, it could link to this page for all the general ways of doing that? For example I remember a piece of an article I wrote some time ago that could be quite easily generalized and put here. -- Kynikos 04:57, 21 June 2011 (EDT)
I agree, and I think this was the original purpose of the article: to show generally how to autostart applications. So writing this kind of article shouldn't be a problem itself, only that I fear that it would be alot of rework, as mentioned before. On the other side, this is justified if it could be written so general that any article could reference this one, instead of having their own section about autostart. This would then be done by replacing all autostart sections in articles with a reference to this one. I'm not really sure, but it would have been more KISS to have a really thorough article on this. -- Roygbiv 07:03, 21 June 2011 (EDT)
You know what, now it's me who agrees with your initial request to delete the article.
