This page is now very clear, easy to understand and helped me a lot to install Compiz-Fusion, so please, don’t remove it. I need for future references. – Raymondcal.

indirect rendering for autostart seems to create tearing

Using indirect rendering for autostart seems to create tearing regardless of driver/compiz VBlank settings(using 256.44 Nvidia properietary drivers). Someone else should try to test it and eventually add it like a note in the page. -Jumbo

Made minor changes

I collected some basic but essential settings that were scattered throughout the page and put it in the beginning while making links to it in places where it was initially located -- Singenbale 14 November 2010.

Compiz auto start

I found that compiz.desktop only cannot make compiz auto start on gnome 3 fallback mode. I must edit file /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/gnome-fallback.session with the following:

Replace your windows manager (gnome-shell,metacity...) with compiz in RequiredComponents line. Change DefaultProvider-windowmanager line to DefaultProvider-windowmanager=compiz

Here is part of my /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/gnome-fallback.session:

RequiredComponents=compiz;gnome-settings-daemon;
RequiredProviders=windowmanager;notifications;
DefaultProvider-windowmanager=compiz
DefaultProvider-notifications=notification-daemon

I'am using gnome3 fallback mode with compiz, make gtk-window-decorator start with compiz, and make avant-window-navigator start automatically. Hope this is usefull.
