I have started to add new sections to the page and remove redundant information. There is now a troubleshooting section and a configuration section. I think I will also add information on autostarting conky on window manager login along with a link to the relevant wiki page. Many of the current tips and tricks need to be tested and checked if they are still relevant. Meskarune (talk) 02:47, 13 March 2018 (UTC)
How does one start and stop Conky? How does one integrate it into the Gnome desktop? Is there a GUI front end to configure it? Is there a list of configuration options? Thanks. - KitchM 15:25, 25 September 2010 (EDT)
- I've left the Conky article alone for a while (it wasn't a priority) but your comment prompted me to look at it and it is missing some pretty basic information. I know all of these fairly well other than Gnome integration and the GUI frontend (for configuration?). Conky's configuration options are many and take some time to explain, although a "common configuration options" section probably wouldn't go amiss. I'll add in what I know and anyone who knows anything about Gnome or Conky frontends can add that too. -- Julius2 09:38, 24 November 2010 (EST)
- Does one just type conky at the command line and does it then find the conky.conf found in ~/.conkeyrc? Or does one have to place something else on the command line? - KitchM 17:45, 20 February 2011 (EST)
There is in fact a GUI for conky, written in Java and available on sourceforge. However, it's fairly new, with the second release uploaded only a month ago; there is no PKGBUILD in the AUR. Also, it's apparently meant only to help the user better organize thoughts. No one unfamiliar with .conkyrc scripting could actually make sense of it. So I'm not personally sure if it deserves mention here or not; I'll leave it to someone else for now. ANOKNUSA 12:17, December 24, 2010 CST
Delay needed in XFCE
I do not know whether this affects only me, but if I have to let conky sleep a few seconds before activating under XFCE. If I don't, it will be launched on the login screen and removed as the desktop loads. Maybe it should be mentioned in the wiki?
Solution: conky -qdp 20 (or any other pause in seconds that will allow the desktop to be rendered first) (Unsigned)
- I have this problem too, and I delay conky for 7 seconds. Just remember to sign your talk page replies. -Sudowoodo (talk) 12:07, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
Update to conky 1.10
I spent a couple of hours trying to get conky to work right according to this page before realizing that the syntax on most of the examples was outdated, so I tried to fix what I could. I hope the edits were up to standard on quality and granularity.
However, I think this page could do well with a comprehensive rewrite. It seems like most of the information here refers to very specific configuration options. Reading this version of the page, it's difficult to get a broader idea of how I can configure conky to work the way I want, or why any of these settings ought to be set according to the various recommendations.
