Rationale for this category

[moved from Category talk:Website Resources -- Kynikos (talk) 19:47, 10 May 2012 (UTC)]

I don't like this category. We already have The "funny" thing is is not there. Can sb point me to the rationale for this category? To me it's like filing Joker, Penguin, Darth Maul and Skeletor under 'V' for 'villain'. They belong to separate worlds / stories and so do the articles from 'Website Resources' category.

The rationale was that all of these articles are accessed from the official Arch Linux homepage. It was simply to keep an eye on our official documentation so to speak. --thayer 22:34, 26 May 2010 (EDT)
So Beginners' Guide is official, official or what? isn't bad but 'Website Resources' is a weird name --Karol 07:26, 27 May 2010 (EDT)
Raise this topic up again. I think this category should be deleted. The reason:
  1. There is an link of Wiki on every pages. Every page header contains "Home|Packages|Forums|Wiki|Bugs|AUR|Download". So in theory every wiki page is linked and easily accessed by Official Home pages.
  2. This Category itself add little value to the Wiki reader or wiki writer. Only few people such as Official Website maintainer needs to know which pages is linked. If this pages list is really need by someone, a pages with page links is enough. And again, because of Reason 1, maybe this pages should contain all pages on the wiki.

My view about this category:
  1. The "official documentation" argument is not (or at least no longer) valid, in fact many of the articles here are rightly freely editable, so they are as official as any other article.
  2. The only purpose I see for this category is that it can be used to keep track of the articles linked from's home page in order to avoid creating dead links there in case these articles were moved (or even deleted) for some reason, in fact external backlinks are of course untrackable otherwise.
For these reasons my proposal is to update this category following this logic and move it under the DeveloperWiki tree, since it has only maintenance purposes.

+1 for moving to DeveloperWiki tree. -- Fengchao (talk) 10:55, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
+1 from me too. -- Karol (talk) 18:36, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
As you can see, I've opted for another solution :) I'll close this discussion and delete Category:Website Resources and its talk page as long as there aren't complaints. -- Kynikos (talk) 19:47, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
No complaints, closing. -- Kynikos (talk) 20:54, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
