Re. Method 1: edit /etc/inittab

There was one problem with that method. It gave a sort of half-way login prompt, then went on with the rest of the startup routine. It looked like this:

::Loading Keyboard Map: us
INIT: Entering runlevel: 3
:: Starting Syslog-NG
myhost login:

:: Starting D-BUS system messagebus

:: Starting Hardware Abstraction Layer

:: Starting Network

:: Mounting Network Filesystems

:: Starting Crib Daemon

:: Restoring ALSA Levels

Now I don't know about anyone else, but I can't see where to login. The prompt is definitely misplaced. Maybe this section needs a little more work.

Further, was one supposed to add the c1, c2, c3, c4, etc lines up to a particular unknown number, or was the c1 and c2 lines plus three periods the correct entry? - KitchM 20:46, 24 October 2010 (EDT)

Problems with article

  • Instructions, related to /etc/inittab are not formatted, according to Template:Keypress.
  • Note about "Given the recent change in agetty, the mandatory change is" is totally misleading.
