Eclipse crashes with xulrunner 2.x

Hi, just installed latest eclipse. It crashed all the time, so I did a bit research:

http://www.eclipse.org/swt/faq.php#browserlinux

Eclipse 3.6.x and newer:
Mozilla 1.4 GTK2 - 1.7.x GTK2
XULRunner 1.8.x - 1.9.2.x
WebKitGTK+ 1.2.0 and newer

Here the solution: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=115543

since gnome3 the webkit library name changed from libwebkit-1.0.so to libwebkitgtk-1.0.so, so I did
# cd /usr/lib
# ln -s libwebkitgtk-1.0.so libwebkit-1.0.so.2
and
-Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.UseWebKitGTK=true
works again

Can u add this to the wiki? -- Der harm 20:16, 6 May 2011 (EDT)

No; please read FIX/FILE BUGS don't IGNORE. -- pointone 22:54, 6 May 2011 (EDT)
Well this workaround has just been added: what now? I'm not against it, although it could be explained much better and report a link to the forum thread. -- Kynikos 05:43, 14 May 2011 (EDT)
That workaround does not involve symlinking different so versions, which was my main objection. Users should never be told to do that. -- pointone 14:38, 16 May 2011 (EDT)
Ah that makes sense, I've understood now. -- Kynikos 15:02, 16 May 2011 (EDT)

Sun JDK

This section was added in 2009: I would replace it with a link to Java, agree?

Is this trick still needed? If not I'll remove it. (Or move it to Java?)

Use plugins manager as root

After upgrading to Eclipse 3.7 from 3.6.2 I apparently lost all my user-installed plugins, because they get stored in ~/.eclipse/[version-dependent-folder]. I would recommend to manage plugins as root user with:

gksu eclipse

This installs them safely in /usr/share/eclipse/plugins/.

Does somebody think this can be dangerous in any way and I shouldn't add it as a warning? I can't think of an alternative except using official/AUR packages.

I didn't notice before, but the Troubleshooting section has already a similar advice: still, if nobody objects I will add the advice above. -- Kynikos 06:55, 28 June 2011 (EDT)

Done. -- Kynikos 10:17, 29 June 2011 (EDT)
