Current state

I was thinking that the "Current state of fish development" section at the bottom should be removed, any objections? Pyroh (talk) 01:03, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

I've renamed it to "History" and moved it to the top as I think it can still be useful. Let's see if somebody else agrees with the deletion though. -- Kynikos (talk) 03:00, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Your change makes it more reasonable for the article, but I still think it should be deleted. Most articles do not have a history section because (in my mind at least) they are out of this wiki's scope. For example, the bash and zsh wiki articles lack a history section because the wiki is meant to be instructional, not contain information which is arguably irrelevant to the programs current functionality. I hope that didn't come across as hostile, was a bit ranty :P Pyroh (talk) 04:11, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Well, I agree that section is not that important, I wouldn't start crying if it was deleted :) However the wiki is not meant to be exclusively instructional, it should have also an informative and educational side, so that alone can't be a justification for the deletion. The comparison with similar articles could be instead a valid reason, as you point out, but maybe another user can help us make a decision. For the moment I've marked the section for deletion. -- Kynikos (talk) 07:09, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Just to make it clear, in absence of more opinions/votes my position is against the deletion, and 1 vs 1 means no change should be made, i.e. the section should stay. -- Kynikos (talk) 11:15, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
All right, that's fine with me. Pyroh (talk) 23:34, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Hello. To help with the "1vs1" problem, I don't think it's necessary to delete the section, but if it's kept, Bash and Zsh should be given History sections, too. Otherwise, the section has little reason to be kept. -Sudowoodo (talk) 07:46, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
Since that section is linking to alternative versions, I've renamed it to "Other versions" and moved it under "Installation", how do you like it? -- Kynikos (talk) 15:13, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
I think the problem with the section is that it's just too bloated. Taking away what we don't need to include on the page:
Fish was discontinued by its original developer in 2011, and has since been maintained by the rest of the team. This legacy version is available on the [[AUR]] as {{AUR|fish-git}}. A later fork, ridiculous_fish has currently been adopted as mainstream, with {{AUR|fish-shell-git}} providing its latest git version, while {{pkg|fish}} provides its latest stable milestones.
Here, I think merging this on Installation and using Template:App will make things simpler and easier. If I misinterpreted something, please correct it. -Sudowoodo (talk) 17:09, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
I like your "patch", my edit was not intended to be definitive, so please go ahead and apply your change. I'm not sure if repeating all the packages with Template:App is needed, the section should be clear enough after that. -- Kynikos (talk) 07:43, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
Edited, I didn't use Template:App, it seems complete as it is, indeed. --Sudowoodo (talk) 08:00, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
