Why does this article make it seem as if GPT disks are the only option? btrfs is fine on MBR disks. In fact the entire section on GPT partitioning is generic and entirely irrelevant to using btrfs for root. The section should merely point to gpt or mbr partitioning pages.

I have removed the relevant "disputed, unconfirmed blabla" bits about syslinux. Updated the part on installing the syslinux bootloader and added links to relevant parts of the syslinux wiki. The system install part still needs some changes to reflect the use of the AIS (arch-chroot, pacstrap etc). --Flako (talk) 08:46, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

The page says...
I noticed that the recommended rsync command on this page is rediculous. It includes archive, verbose, partial/progress, sparse, and interestingly hard-links, which is already included in the archive flag.  The one that really makes me scratch my head in stupor though is the -h. As far as I can tell, that is the flag for help, which seems to be ignored when combined with all the others.

For now I am simply going to change it to -aAXv, which is what the "Full System Backup with rsync" page recommends. I am no expert with rsync, so if you feel as though you have a better, more efficient, faster, more complete, etc. way of using rsync in this manner, please feel free to update it as you see fit. If that is the case though, maybe update the "Full System Backup with rsync" page as well. --WonderWoofy (talk) 15:02, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

This page needs to be deleted. As of today (April 2013) no additional steps beyond those outlined in Installation Guide are required to install Archlinux on Btrfs (except filesystem creation, mkfs.btrfs). First, all entries regarding bootloader and partitioning are not specific to the Btrfs filesystem and shouldn't be here. Instead, future users should be redirected to their dedicated pages. Second, mkinitcpio-btrfs should have its own wiki page because it is not in the official repositories and it is not required to be part of the installation process.

GPT-centric

Why does this article make it seem as if GPT disks are the only option? btrfs is fine on MBR disks. In fact the entire section on GPT partitioning is generic and entirely irrelevant to using btrfs for root. The section should merely point to gpt or mbr partitioning pages.

Yes, the partition part should be merged out. -- Fengchao (talk) 00:44, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

Loop method not explained.

The page says...

"Warning: If you need swap support, either make a partition, or use the loop method detailed below. DO NOT simply use a swap file! Doing so will corrupt your btrfs filesystem."

However the loop method is not detailed below.

Deletion

This page needs to be deleted. As of today (April 2013) no additional steps beyond those outlined in Installation Guide are required to install Archlinux on Btrfs (except filesystem creation, mkfs.btrfs). First, all entries regarding bootloader and partitioning are not specific to the Btrfs filesystem and shouldn't be here. Instead, future users should be redirected to their dedicated pages. Second, mkinitcpio-btrfs should have its own wiki page because it is not in the official repositories and it is not required to be part of the installation process. Cngn (talk) 11:25, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

This topic should be split into different steps:
 1. Remove duplication with Installation Guide
 2. Merge btrfs partition part into Btrfs
 3. Add links in Beginner's Guide and Btrfs to this page.
 4. The info left should fit well as name mkinitcpio-btrfs so we can rename this page to new name. Or maybe Btrfs snapshots is a better name.

I think this page is very useful and there is no reason to delete it. without this page you have to scramble around trying to figure out the correct method. The reasons for including partitioning methods are for clarity, and what is the issue with having clear documentation? Raininja (talk) 14:57, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

btrfs snapshots

As a new archlinux user, 'don't do this' is unhelpful without an alternative set of steps that is suggested instead. What steps need to occur in order to setup btrfs in the right form for snapshots etc? Joshka (talk) 09:02, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
