i still prefere to install arch in the classic way, with a standalone (grub) boot partition, after installation, copy all on a backup disk, format /,/home etc into btrfs format, then copy back :)

booting btrfs with grub2
the current grub2 version works, as far as i can tell, nicely with root on btrfs, even if boot is on it and inside the root subvolume. So the article could be simplyfied i guess.--Ctx 09:10, 12 October 2011 (EDT)
- I'm not into btrfs but the article seems to make use of syslinux/extlinux at the moment: you could add the grub2 way as an alternative (maybe preferred alternative?). -- Kynikos 08:05, 13 October 2011 (EDT)
- Hello everyone, I am going to begin writing the grub2-bios directions for running from a btrfs root partition using grub2-bios, subvolumes, and gpt. I think showing how to use btrfs with grub2 is important and it took me days to figure it out. --Demizer 01:01, 18 February 2012 (EST)
Rewrote article and added grub2 info.
Hey guys and gals, I finished the rewrite adding info for GRUB2 installations and restoring from a backup. I will go back and do more edits after my brain has been given a chance to relax. Please note that I completely rewrote the article and added a lot of sections. The previous sections on syslinux didn't work for me when I tried to use it, so I spent three days researching the method to install btrfs, gpt, and grub2. So basically, the syslinux info is out of date and I don't want to go learn about syslinux to fix it. Thanks! --Demizer 20:10, 18 February 2012 (EST)
Syslinux and btrfs, works. I have tried two different configurations on two differents PCs and both work. One used pure btrfs root, the other used a separate boot partition. I think its time to remove the unconfirmed stuff from the wiki now. -- flako 01 September 2012
Why does this article make it seem as if GPT disks are the only option? btrfs is fine on MBR disks. In fact the entire section on GPT partitioning is generic and entirely irrelevant to using btrfs for root. The section should merely point to gpt or mbr partitioning pages.
