I was using my nvidia dedicated and switched to intel. I changed the driver from nvidia to intel but it did not work. I then, sort of randomly, came across that the intel driver does not require an xorg.conf. When I deleted mine, it worked.

Maybe the solution to get rid of the above dmesg log spamming could be mentioned? You just add `options i915 enable_psr=0` to the file `/etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf`. [[User:Bjourne|Bjourne]] ([[User talk:Bjourne|talk]]) 17:04, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Should I add a short comment about this?

:Currently the article says "There is no need for any kind of configuration to get the Xorg running (an xorg.conf is unneeded)": you may change it to "[...] (a xorg.conf is unneeded and in some cases it may even prevent Xorg from starting)". Alternatively you may add a proper section under Troubleshooting.

== Guide for screen scaling with external displays via xrandr? ==

I tried to find instructions for scaling the display resolution without stretching on this wiki page, but the section only says that it's not implemented in the Intel drivers yet. However, [https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/220387/how-to-set-scaling-mode-for-external-displays-on-intel-gpu this stackexchange thread] has a workaround using an xrandr transform matrix. Should this be added to the wiki page?

Maybe the solution to get rid of the above dmesg log spamming could be mentioned? You just add `options i915 enable_psr=0` to the file `/etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf`. Bjourne (talk) 17:04, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

DRI3 confusion

I've seen in the forum people ask from time to time how to enable DRI3 on their system.

As stated many times there, DRI3 should be on for most (if not all) of them. But people keep telling them to check

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep DRI

which shows up this message:

GLX: Initialized DRI2 GL provider for screen 0

which is *not accurate*.

If you run this command instead:

LC_ALL=C LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo | grep DRI

you might stump with this other message:

libGL: Using DRI3 for screen 0

which proves you are using DRI3 even though X11 doesn't reply with the correct information.

The command was adapted from xorg mailing list.

So, it think adding this information in the page could be of major interest. What do you think?

Guide for screen scaling with external displays via xrandr?

I tried to find instructions for scaling the display resolution without stretching on this wiki page, but the section only says that it's not implemented in the Intel drivers yet. However, this stackexchange thread has a workaround using an xrandr transform matrix. Should this be added to the wiki page?

Dirver "modesetting" is nowhere to be found

Driver "modesetting" does not appear in the wiki. It would have saved me around 5 hours of pointless mouse-chase.

I tried to add it to the page, but my edit was undone.

See https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=236200 .

Since you were looking specifically for the modesetting driver, surely you have found the notes in Xorg#Installation and Intel_graphics#Installation. There is a link to modesetting(4) which explains everything. -- Lahwaacz (talk) 15:53, 16 April 2018 (UTC)
Not specifically, nope. I was trying to get a working display, and clearly no one had a clue how to fix it on IRC or on the forum. Hindsight is doesn't sound like a valid solution Moviuro (talk) 20:09, 16 April 2018 (UTC)
