I'm not brave enough to edit the main article, but according to the [http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_2_6_32#head-11f54cdac41ad6150ef817fd68597554d9d05a5f 2.6.32 release notes], the build targets "localmodconfig" and "localyesconfig" have been added to ease in creating custom kernels. The difference, as I understand it between the first and second target is that the latter removes unused modules so that init scripts and modules are unneeded.

The article mentions 'make module_install' without explicitly calling for 'make modules' - this will result in a lot of `cp` errors.

:Only if you don't invoke the default <code>make</code> target, or otherwise modified the makefile. See <code>make help</code>. Maybe we could note that this article infers "vanilla" sources, per instructions. If you want to add a section for patching, and how this may modify the instructions, go for it. Kernel.org has updated their info, I believe we can simply link to their instructions "avoiding duplication of effort"

:Are you talking about the signature verification part only or about the whole section? Anyway yes, linking to upstream docs is preferable when they're clear and well-maintained like in this case, provided there's no need for Arch-specific adaptations of course. -- [[User:Kynikos|Kynikos]] 08:02, 8 January 2012 (EST)

::Just the signature verification part.  The whole "web of trust" signing concept is new to me as is *gpg*.  It appears that the security issue at kernel.org has been resolved, and the page at http://kernel.org/signature.html has been updated to reflect thisI have only time to comment occasionally, but not to edit right now... Missing 'make modules' command

The article mentions 'make module_install' without explicitly calling for 'make modules' - this will result in a lot of `cp` errors. Rdahlgren (talk) 05:46, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Only if you don't invoke the default make target, or otherwise modified the makefile. See make help. Maybe we could note that this article infers "vanilla" sources, per instructions. If you want to add a section for patching, and how this may modify the instructions, go for it. T1nk3r3r (talk) 06:44, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Missing 'make bzImage' command

This step is also required, otherwise there will be no bzImage to copy Rdahlgren (talk) 06:05, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Not if you follow instructions to the letter. See previous reply. T1nk3r3r (talk) 06:46, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
