High-contrast icons in LibreOffice
OpenOffice.org article has a section on setting OOo to use a QT/KDE3 and a QT4/KDE4 interface. It also has this other section about KDE4. It has been reported on the OOo article that the KDE3 interface will be re-enabled in LibreOffice 3.3.3. What about QT4/KDE4 support? Can these sections be copied into this article, maybe with an Out of date template at the moment? I don't use KDE, so I cannot test this. -- Kynikos 05:10, 8 April 2011 (EDT)

LibO has native kde4 support and is selfdetecting the environment very well. So I think there's no need to add this here (andyrtr).

A short time ago I augmented the details on disabling the high-contrast icons (what the article refers to as "Windows 95" or "Windows 98" style icons), since for me, it wasn't enough to just disable the automatic high-constrast detection.

Document Spacing Difference OO/Libre - Bug Opened
+
I found this out courtesy of the following entries in the LibreOffice Bugzilla; while I am sure anyone else here could find them just as easily, I wanted to note them here for the information of other contributors:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35803 A bug has been opened with freedesktop.org due to a default spacing difference between LibreOffice and OpenOffice that destroys the ability to re-create documents previously saved with OO while preserving document spacing. (example documents provided in bug report). This effects Libre on Linux as well as Windows (if you run a dual OS shop). Libre somehow has larger font kerning or paragraph leading that causes lines to wrap where they didn't in OO. This results in length documents experiencing page run-ons and destorys automatically generated pagination such as in tables of contents, etc.. This affects people who need to be able to re-create duplicates of original documents such as legal pleading, etc...

This might be a bug and should then probably be filed somewhere else, but is related to the section on troubleshooting.

My issue was this: Most, but not all, text in the menus and in the user interface was in an unreadable font - in English but with wrong symbols. Changing the system fonts as recommended in various places did not help. It turned out I had the language pack libreoffice-am (Amharic) installed by mistake. Removing this gave me back the intelligible menus.

For me texts in menus and user interface suddenly appear ugly: readable though but very strange with half characters seemingly bold (always the same: a, e, i, o, g, p, s, t, y, etc). This strange display can come and go.

Also "File" and "Help" menus always look grey even when their entries are valid and click-able.

I tried the advice in troubleshooting (Type Andale Sans UI in the font box and choose Deja Vu Sans for the Replace with option. When done, click the checkmark. Then choose the Always and Screen only options in the box below. Click OK. You will then need to go to Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View, and uncheck "Use system font for user interface".) But with Libre Office Version: 5.1.5.2 there is no such thing as "Use system font for user interface". Trying with and without "Use hardware acceleration" and "Use anti-aliasing" has no effect.

 +

 +
Not sure if this is because of a bug or something, but if the slideshow won't show on your additional display in a multimonitor setup, you can add this to your i3 config file:
 +

 +
    assign [class=".*libreoffice-impress.*"] 8
 +
    workspace 8 output eDP1
 +
    assign [class="Soffice"] 9
 +
    workspace 9 output HDMI1
 +

 +
Change the outputs to what you actually use. Check output of xrandr for this.
 +
When starting the presentation, you can move the notes/slides-window to the main display, and the slideshow will be visible underneath. Make the slideshow fullscreen. -- 15:02, 8 September 2016‎ Armandg

How to properly add appmenu (global menu) support to libreoffice?
 +

 +
When using the (integrated) global menu in Plasma 5, Qt 5 applications work out-of-box and Qt 4 won't work (keeps the menu) without appmenu-qt4. GTK applications will also keep the classical menu. However, the menu of libreoffice disappears.

High-contrast icons in LibreOffice

A short time ago I augmented the details on disabling the high-contrast icons (what the article refers to as "Windows 95" or "Windows 98" style icons), since for me, it wasn't enough to just disable the automatic high-constrast detection.

I found this out courtesy of the following entries in the LibreOffice Bugzilla; while I am sure anyone else here could find them just as easily, I wanted to note them here for the information of other contributors:

Finnish spell checking section

I added a section but am not sure if it is the right place for it. What do you think?

-- olkkoo 23:44, 5 December 2013 (UTC+2)

If it's only spell checking you could move it as a subsection of LibreOffice#Spell checking and just rename it "Finnish". If it's more than just spell checking, you may leave it there but rename it to LibreOffice#Finnish aids or similar. -- Kynikos (talk) 01:34, 7 December 2013 (UTC)
