-mplayer seems to use oss by default editing ~/.mplayer/config with ao=alsa or running it with command seems to change this wondered if this is worth mentioning on this wiki page?

I think the "More codecs" section should be done away with. Since the codecs package is not in the repositories, the one in aur is pretty old and mplayer does not need it. M l 12:10, 5 November 2009 (EST)

Official packages are now built with --enable-xvmc, which makes Enable XvMC for NVIDIA video cards largely out of date. The remaining useful bits of that article should probably just be merged into the main MPlayer article.  There's already a section in the MPlayer article for a similar technology, VDPAU.  If I remember correctly, at some point XvMC was better for AMD/ATI users while VDPAU is better for NVidia users.  I believe the article would be more complete with the inclusion of a XvMC section and some gentle steering toward the right technology for ATI and NVidia users.

I may eventually perform the merge myself, but I'd do so only after some more research. Of course it would be great if someone with MPlayer expertise and experience were to do it first. James Eder 12:42, 29 July 2011 (EDT)

mpv split

Please check User:Flu/mpv (as I noticed that the features in common are not that much...) and give me a feed back.

Well, I guess you can split mpv, just make sure to properly update MPlayer and interlink the two, possibly also adding links to other related articles. -- Kynikos (talk) 06:35, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
Do you mean an Article summary? I read here a discussion about abolish them...

I'm pretty sure you mean this discussion ;) Anyway article summaries can be used now, their deprecation is not something that's going to happen anytime soon, if ever.
Nonetheless you can just use "MPlayer" or "mpv" words in the content as link anchors, or See also sections, I wasn't thinking specifically of article summaries.
