This page needs to be deleted. As of today (April 2013) no additional steps beyond those outlined in Installation Guide are required to install Archlinux on Btrfs (except filesystem creation, mkfs.btrfs). First, all entries regarding bootloader and partitioning are not specific to the Btrfs filesystem and shouldn't be here. Instead, future users should be redirected to their dedicated pages. Second, mkinitcpio-btrfs should have its own wiki page because it is not in the official repositories and it is not required to be part of the installation process.

:This topic should be split into different steps:
:#Remove duplication with Installation Guide
:#Merge btrfs partition part into Btrfs
:#Add links in Beginner's Guide and Btrfs to this page.
:#The info left should fit well as name mkinitcpio-btrfs so we can rename this page to new name. Or maybe Btrfs snapshots is a better name.

::I think this page is very useful and there is no reason to delete it. without this page you have to scramble around trying to figure out the correct method. The reasons for including partitioning methods are for clarity, and what is the issue with having clear documentation? :::Fengchao's plan seems the most reasonable way to save the good content and remove what's duplicated from other articles. -- Kynikos (talk) 07:40, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
::::I'm afraid things have gone differently in the last month or so: , . It's possible that it is an improvement, but the original argument still stands, plus the current content is not worth the title "mkinitcpio-btrfs" and only confuses users (including me). -- Lahwaacz (talk) 22:10, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
::::: I am going to start working on this. I have also proposed merging the errant page Btrfs - Tips and tricks which should have been a sub-section of Btrfs to begin with.AdamT (Talk) 04:32, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
:::::: Okay, as outlined by Fengchao, I have completed steps 1, 2, and, I think, 3. This article is very messy and hard to follow. I suggest the best approach is simply to start from scratch and re-write it following Help:Style and such. I would be happy to do this, I am just not sure when I will get to it as I have not yet messed around with this AUR package or using Btrfs to roll back (though it has been on my list to learn).
::::::Btrfs - Tips and tricks covers a similar topic, so given the time I may try and tackle them both at once and integrate as much as possible into Btrfs and anything directly pertaining to mkinitcpio-btrfs to this article specifically. Btrfs itself could use some work for what it is worth and I have started chipping away at that. -- AdamT (Talk) 08:45, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
:::::::Thanks for doing this, great job! Regarding the current status, I think all Fengchao's points are accomplished, so let's close this discussion. I think you should start new section for the future changes/problems, or just add a note at the beginning of the page that it is a work in progress. -- Lahwaacz (talk) 23:25, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
::::::::Thanks for the feedback Lahwaacz. I went ahead and added an accuracy template to the article for further warning and clarification until the clean-up is completed. I will create a new discussion section as suggested. Considering this closed. -- AdamT (Talk) 01:49, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

Things to do (accuracy & style)

This article is in real need of extensive editing or a complete re-write (my suggestion). See also Btrfs - Tips and tricks which covers a related topic.

  1. Scope
    1. The scope of this article should focus exclusively on mkinitcpio-btrfsAUR.
      1. All divergent topics should be linked to Btrfs (which should be expanded as needed) or elsewhere.
    2. The scope of topic of this article may necessitate a new installation.
      1. Content that exists in Installation Guide or Beginners' Guide should not be duplicated.
  2. Style
    1. Strict adherence to Help:Style and related Arch Wiki guides should be followed throughout.
  3. Approach
    1. I suggest a complete re-write may be the best method to creating a page that is easier to follow and provides the most comprehensive amount of information on this topic.
      1. Also see Btrfs - Tips and tricks.

I am willing to undertake this project if someone does not beat me to it, but it may not be until December/January (2013/2014) or later. -- AdamT (Talk) 02:05, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

In the introduction, we should make it clear what functions are provided by Mkinitcpio-btrfs? Why this package is needed? --Fengchao (talk) 11:49, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
