But msmtp is an smtp client, is not a server, and its mostly used by email clients like mutt or nmh. Shouldn't then be a member of the Category:Email Client instead? Chrisl (talk) 04:39, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

I just noticed it is part of that category already XD. Well, it should be part of the Category:Mail Server too?Chrisl (talk) 04:43, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
Given that it could be used instead of sendmail, doesn't it belong to mail servers as well? The previous category was web server, so I think this is more appropriate. Feel free to remove it if you find this is wrong, clearly you know more about mail servers tha I do :p --Maevius (talk) 05:31, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
Ah! Well, sendmail is a full MTA; it can relay mails on its own; that is, it is a SMTP server, but it can also relay mails using an external mail server (yes, sendmail can also be an smtp client)
An smtp client is useful for things like having a home server -with dynamic ip-, running scritps (php maybe) that are capable of sending mails, but then it send them by using an external smtp server (like a gmail account), instead of sending them on its own.
The article I wrote was about using sendmail as an smtp server only, since using it as client is overkill; sendmail is kind of complex.
On the other hand, mstmp is a really simple smtp client. But is only a client, not a server.
....Since msmtp is a client, and its not server at all, but it can be used as drop-in replacement for an actual mail server (scripts using it instead of sendmail wont know/care about the difference) hm, maybe should stay... or not... I'll think about it. Chrisl (talk) 16:46, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
