==<s> Suggestion to move "server configuration" section </s>==
Suggest putting the ''server setup and configuration'' under its own heading, and moving to after all the client stuff.

:Moving this suggestion to new section for better readability; also note that the above discussion is ''closed'' (remove the {{ic|<nowiki><s></nowiki>}} tags around the heading if there is a serious reason to reopen it). -- [[User:Lahwaacz|Lahwaacz]] ([[User talk:Lahwaacz|talk]]) 17:51, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
:IMO this would disrupt the logical flow of the article - is it such a problem for the "regular users" to simply skip the section? -- [[User:Lahwaacz|Lahwaacz]] ([[User talk:Lahwaacz|talk]]) 18:04, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
::I agree to Lahwaacz. I made a change to make it bolder that defaults can well be used for client mode: [https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php?title=Network_Time_Protocol_daemon&diff=302244&oldid=302241]. Maybe that helps the reader enough so that we can keep the structure now? --[[User:Indigo|Indigo]] ([[User talk:Indigo|talk]]) 19:23, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
:::Yeah let's leave all the configuration under the same main heading, we train people to skip sections from the Beginners' Guide itself ;) Closed. -- [[User:Kynikos|Kynikos]] ([[User talk:Kynikos|talk]]) 09:27, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
::::Indigo, I don't understand your reversion - to run as a server itself, does the computer's client connection to the NTP servers need to be manually configured? Also, what is a purged link?
::::[[User:Idomeneo1|Idomeneo1]] ([[User talk:Idomeneo1|talk]]) 14:01, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
:::::Every NTP server needs to be configured also in ''client'' mode (unless being [[wikipedia:Network_Time_Protocol#Clock_strata|stratum]] 0 of course) to actually serve a ''precise'' time. -- [[User:Lahwaacz|Lahwaacz]] ([[User talk:Lahwaacz|talk]]) 14:07, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
::::::The default configuration does not do this?
::::::[[User:Idomeneo1|Idomeneo1]] ([[User talk:Idomeneo1|talk]]) 14:17, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
:::::::It does do it, but the default options for the pool.ntp.org servers apply whether you use it in client or server mode. That's why the subsection rename to "server" was misleading imo. The "purged link" referred to the link at the end of the second sentence. We had just added that in conclusion of your point above that defaults should be just fine for most users (so they may want to skip the config section). And your edit purged/removed the link forward to "Usage" again. Alright? --[[User:Indigo|Indigo]] ([[User talk:Indigo|talk]]) 18:17, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
::::::::I just made the suggestion with ease-of-overview in mind; I don't think anyone will have any trouble skipping ahead.
::::::::I think that section/heading is unclear however, because the sentences before and after the specific heading refer to ''general'' client configuration. Also adding "manual" to the heading would make clear its optionality.
::::::::[[User:Idomeneo1|Idomeneo1]] ([[User talk:Idomeneo1|talk]]) 01:13, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
:::::::::Adding "manual" is another suggestion and could be done, but is it really necessary? The first sentence of that subsection reads "If you want to configure /etc/ntp.conf manually, ...". Consider too that long headers break ugly in small browser windows. We have articles more in need, let's keep this closed and move on I'd say. Ok? --[[User:Indigo|Indigo]] ([[User talk:Indigo|talk]]) 11:42, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
