Regarding Thunar Shares Plugin: The version I downloaded (0.2) did not have a PKGBUILD file. I had to follow the README in order to install the plugin. It was pretty easy, just manually ./configure, make and make install and then configure samba the way they describe.

the article says to use the AUR - it never says there is a PKGBUILD file in the upstream release, PKGBUILDs are for making Arch packages.
