systemd ?

Shall we change the "Daemon mode" section and refer to systemctl to use timidity ? I tried "# systemctl enable timidity", but "systemctl status timidity" tells me that the service is loaded but inactive. What is the recommended way to use MIDI now ? Hellpe (talk) 22:44, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

I had the same problem. Systemd support for timidity has been added but doesn't seem to have been pushed out to the repository. My solution was to compile timidity from source using ABS. After installing the compiled package I could use timidity with systemd ("systemctl enable timidity" and "systemctl start timidity"). Svinto (talk) 11:53, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
I added a short part about how to use timidity with systemd/user in for those who use pulseaudio with it in the daemon section.Reihar (talk) 04:00, 8 December 2013 (UTC)

Playing from URL

timidity should play from a URL, like

timidity http://some.url.here/file.mid

extra/timidity++ always treats URLs as local filenames quequotion (talk) 11:29, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

I wonder if the man page is not simply inaccurate, but apparently it was correct as of October 2016, at least in whatever version Fedora 24 was using. Either of these (usually) work well enough (might want to increase stdbuf):
wget -qO- http://some.url.here/file.mid | timidity -
curl -fs http://some.url.here/file.mid | timidity -
The purpose being to have something for mozplugger to play midi files in firefox. quequotion (talk) 19:07, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
