::::I'm going to remove the gamin tip. As far as I can tell from [http://oss.sgi.com/projects/fam/ here] and [https://people.gnome.org/~veillard/gamin/ here] it helps gui tools to track file changes. I have an xfce installation here without gamin and thunar shows the changes to my files just fine. My system shows no benefits with gamin installed and no problems when gamin is not installed. I can confirm that no desktop environment pulls in gamin as a dependency so I see no reason for this tip to still be on the wiki page. If a user has a particular need for gamin they're still free to install it. -- [[User:Chazza|Chazza]] ([[User talk:Chazza|talk]]) 15:20, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

I've done a big cleanup on this article. The organisation was all over the place. I've reordered some pieces of info into a more coherent structure, pruned the out of date info and re-written some sections to make them sound more professional. If somebody who is very knowledgeable about Xfce could look over this - particularly sections 5 and 6  but section 4 probably needs some work as well- and remove cruft that would be great.

Transparent Background for Icon Titles

I am changing the colors in Xfce#Transparent_Background_for_Icon_Titles from this:

style "xfdesktop-icon-view" {
XfdesktopIconView::label-alpha = 10
base[NORMAL] = "#000000"
base[SELECTED] = "#71B9FF"
base[ACTIVE] = "#71FFAD"
fg[NORMAL] = "#ffffff"
fg[SELECTED] = "#71B9FF"
fg[ACTIVE] = "#71FFAD" }
widget_class "*XfdesktopIconView*" style "xfdesktop-icon-view"

To this:

style "xfdesktop-icon-view" {
XfdesktopIconView::label-alpha = 10
base[NORMAL] = "#000000"
base[SELECTED] = "#71B9FF"
base[ACTIVE] = "#71B9FF"
fg[NORMAL] = "#fcfcfc"
fg[SELECTED] = "#ffffff"
fg[ACTIVE] = "#ffffff" }
widget_class "*XfdesktopIconView*" style "xfdesktop-icon-view"

The latter looks more consistent and simplistic to me Aaditya (talk) 07:56, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

I've edited your comment to use better quality links and more natural language. Ichimonji10 (talk) 14:06, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

gamin

In the first bit of "Installation", this article suggests installing gamin. I vaguely understand that gamin allows Thunar to show removable drives and CDs. If this is true, can someone add a note about that? It would've saved me about an hour...

EDIT: This text seems to be striked out and I'm too tired to figure out why. To7m (talk) 02:18, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

I also would like to know what gamin is needed for. It does not provide browsing of removable drives, this is handled by GVFS, as explained in Thunar.

Cleanup

I've done a big cleanup on this article. The organisation was all over the place. I've reordered some pieces of info into a more coherent structure, pruned the out of date info and re-written some sections to make them sound more professional. If somebody who is very knowledgeable about Xfce could look over this - particularly sections 5 and 6 but section 4 probably needs some work as well- and remove cruft that would be great.
