https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Orange_Pi I started the instructions from the very top on a fresh sd card.

1. Install basesystem to a SD card

2. ...

3. Compile and copy U-Boot bootloader

I then logged into the system using alarm:alarm

I then changed to root user, then did pacman -Syu, upgraded to linux-armv7-4.11.0-1

I rebooted and confirmed that the system did not boot up.

I powered the orange pi down, removed the sd card, inserted it into my desktop, then followed your new instructions, starting with "git clone --depth 1 git://git.denx.de/u-boot.git"

I essentially flashed the latest git version of u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin, but it still did not boot up.
