Nfs - restarting server != start server

I noticed you rewrote my addition to the nfs page, but thereby changed the intended meaning. My original point was not that the server needed starting, but that it neede REstarting after changing the exports-file. Please update or revert accordingly Spider.007 (talk) 09:13, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

  1. Including the comment there breaks the flow of the article since you are teaching readers to restart a service that they have not yet been told to start :)
  2. I believe that step superfluous. Notices the upstream comment in /etc/exports:
# Use `exportfs -arv` to reload.

Try the test case: have your setup running with a given set of exports. Now simply add another to /etc/exports and then run `exportfs -arv` followed by:

showmount -e localhost

In my tests, a restart of the server is not required to pickup the changes. Graysky (talk) 12:03, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

I expanded the comment from my original edit to be a little more verbose about point #2 and I welcome your review:

I was expecting a reply in that direction, I also used to only run `exportfs` but recently found out sometimes the server needed restarting as well. To save others a few hours of debugging, I added the suggestion you now removed. I agree with your flow-comment but couldn't find a better place for this unexpected requirement of nfs. Check out /usr/lib/systemd/system/nfs-server.service which actually does this for you which is why your restart comment worked for you:
ExecStartPre=/usr/sbin/exportfs -r
ExecStart=/usr/sbin/rpc.nfsd $RPCNFSDARGS
ExecStop=/usr/sbin/rpc.nfsd 0
ExecStopPost=/usr/sbin/exportfs -au
ExecStopPost=/usr/sbin/exportfs -f

ExecReload=/usr/sbin/exportfs -r

Anyway, if you want to add it, perhaps somewhere in the tips/tricks? Graysky (talk) 13:21, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Beginners' Guide / network

Hi, your rework of [1] breaks content, particularly on netctl which recycles the examples. You should undo it, content should be moved first. --Indigo (talk) 09:57, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

What do you mean by breaks content? On the netctl article itself? Confused. Graysky (talk) 11:24, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
Yes, Netctl#Example_profiles links to the now removed BG guide examples. Also, the small section on how to start dhcpcd was meant to make it easy for Arch beginners. --Indigo (talk) 12:02, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
OK, I understand now. Please see the edits I made fixing this [2] and in the linked pages. Graysky (talk) 14:41, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
Alright, thank you. Closing. --Indigo (talk) 16:03, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
