I just noticed that you changed a bunch of pacman -Sy into -S... what is the reason for this?

- You can find some background discussion about it here, but basically it comes down to best practice. Setting aside the argument about dependency issues found in that link, it's just a waste of time for the end user to sync the pacman database with every single package installation. It is assumed that the end user performs a system update (-Syu) before installing any software...so syncing during each command is pointless. I believe the Pacman article has been updated accordingly as well. --thayer 15:16, 29 January 2010 (EST)
