Overview

Window Maker is a window manager (WM) running in X Window System. It is designed to emulate NeXT's GUI as an OpenStep-compatible environment. Characterized by low demand for memory and a flexible design. As one of the lighter WMs is well-suited to smaller machines.

Installation and configuration

To install Window Maker:

pacman -S windowmaker

Once installed create or edit the file $HOME/.xinitrc as follows:

exec wmaker

Then to start Window Maker just run:

startx
