Ports for UPnP/DLNA

It has been really a pain for me to find out what ports are needed for them, in order to set the correct firewall rules. Most articles on the Internet are irrelevant, unanswered or incorrect: Kodi1 Kodi2 Kodi3 UMS1 Plex. Those with some "answers" involve unrelated ports and miss some ports.

Battling with it for really a long time (because the behaviour of Kodi is also not always consistent), I finally figured out that UDP 1900 and TCP 1489 are needed.

I'm not sure if this is different because of my needs: I need to send online video from my Android phone to Kodi. It is through DLNA, though I'm not exactly sure which roles they are.

Where should this information be put? Directly under the UPnP/DLNA part?

Running kodi from the tty

I did some testing and found that `sudo startx /usr/bin/kodi` works for running on bare tty and to get input an audio. Is this a solution that is suggestable or are there any security concerns? Managor (talk) 20:07, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Bad idea to run it as root. If you want to start it from the tty use Graysky (talk) 20:16, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
