Information about wifi connection during live install not working might be incorrect

I was installing Arch withi live install USB a couple of weeks ago (mid November) and was aware of the entry on this page that said that during live install Wifi doesn't work and ethernet connection is needed. However, wifi connection did work for me during live install! I did nothing special, just followed the instructions and used `iwctl` to connect to a wireless network.

The only weird thing I noticed was that on the first go, I couldn't connect to the 5GHz network, I would get "Operation failed". I did successfully connect to the 2.4GHz network though, right after that. And this happened only once during live installation: after partitioning I had to stop the install and I shut down machine, and later I went into live install again and continued, and this time even connecting to 5GHz worked immediately, even though I made no persistent changes, no chrooting or anything yet. Might even be that 5GHz was just down that first time, I actually haven't checked, although it is not likely, but I can't think of anything else.

I did update the system fully from Windows first though, via Lenovo Commercial Vantage executable, including BIOS/firmware, I don't know if that could have made any difference.

I noticed the firmware package of the current installer is recent enough to support wifi during setup. I propose changing the Wiki page and remove the paragraph on the wifi malfunction. Optionally we can put a suggestion to use 2.4 GHz just to be sure. VanDonselaar (talk) 19:11, 28 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm using this laptop now, have had no issues with wifi during setup whatsoever. I propose we revise or remove the section regarding wifi malfunction completely. Smathles (talk) 07:55, 18 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
