Fibocom L860-GL-16 Mobile broadband

I don't actually use Arch, but the following information may be useful. Hardware-wise, I can confirm that the Fibocom L860-GL-16 WWAN module largely works with the X1 Carbon Gen 11 on Ubuntu. The instructions for the Gen 10 apply largely unchanged, except that it is possible to update the firmware from Linux. You can't do it with fwupd, but you can download the Linux firmware update tool from Lenovo, which when installed triggers an EFI program on next reboot that performs the firmware upgrade to 18601.7906.99.00.17.30. If you don't upgrade the firmware, then the WWAN card still works, once per reboot, but becomes a temporary brick the first time you suspend or hibernate, and remains a brick until you reboot.

As stated in the Gen 10 page, you need a non-US SIM card in order for the unlock tool to work (Canada is fine). I do not know how to use the embedded eSIM card, so for me the only way is with a physical SIM card.

I would update the main page, except again I don't use Arch, so I can't confirm the details for Arch or whether or not it works the same on Arch. Djao (talk) 07:40, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

MIPI camera and 2.8k OLED display

This is possibly soon to be no longer relevant since Lenovo is now selling the Gen 12 and the Gen 11 likely has only limited commercial life remaining, but contrary to what is stated in the opening warning, Lenovo does now offer the option of purchasing the 2.8k OLED display with a standard 1080p (non-MIPI) webcam.
