Secure Scuttlebutt is a well working and thriving social network since many years. It runs on a big append-only database that supports encrypted private messages and offline browsing of the data. It synchronizes the database via a server running on the users computer and support finding other peers via a handful of protocols.

The information in the database spreads similar to gossip between humans.
