Story

Switching from windows

As of August 2022, I switched from Windows 11 to Arch Linux as my daily driver for coding, gaming and browsing. I am very satisfied with it and would not use any Microsoft product anymore.

Window Managers

So yeah I am using Arch BTW, What's next? I stumbled upon r/unixporn while browsing reddit. I was stunned by the amount of customization (and beauty, of course) of these rices. I wanted all of that beauty. I wanted to dive deep into this world of wanders.

Looking in the sidebar I saw an unfamiliar term, Window Managers. I googled (Or duckduckwent actually) this term, and there was a lot of information to handle. I decided to pick the first post in r/unixport that features a window manager and learn that specific window manager. I landed on bspwm. I found this article to help me getting started. Eventually I got it working the way I like it.

SystemD

Although arch was my first distro, I was comfortable with it. It was SystemD that disturbed this comfort. For one reason is that it's an all-or-nothing deal. You either use almost all of SystemD or none (Just like Windows huh?).

Efforts were made to extract vital parts of it into separate repos, but it's burden to maintain such repos.

I am currently aiming to replace SystemD completely, to the point where I can mark it as IgnorePackage in pacman.conf.
