X1C7 info request

Hi Johncrist1988, some of us were curious about your information concerning the throttling fix on the Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 7 page. Can you link me to something about how/why thermald has replaced the gen 6 throttling fix? Currently it seems that thermald doesn't work correctly on at least two of our gen 7's so I'm just curious and want more info.

Also, concerning the firmware, am I correct in my understanding that you used firmware from the Gen 6 driver website and installed it on your Gen 7 with fwupdmgr? This is what you originally left on the wiki, and I assumed that it needed to be edited out. I mean, wouldn't installing firmware for the wrong device carry the risk of bricking it? ( I could be totally wrong! )

It would be super awesome if you could hop over to the talk page ( https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Talk:Lenovo_ThinkPad_X1_Carbon_(Gen_7) ) and respond to the relevant topics! wrycode (talk) 02:41, 20 August 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for the questions. I had mistakenly referenced thermald when I meant to reference throttled. Previously I had used the lenovo-throttle-fix-gitAUR which then eventually prompted me to use throttled instead. I did set this page up in haste whilst at the office -- my mistake and I'll be more careful in the future.

Concerning the firmware, I did not use Gen 6 drivers on the website. That was likely also a hasty mistake on my part during some copypasta from the Gen 6 page. Thank you for editing that out -- if someone had indeed done that it would have been a device bricking moment for sure.

I will most certainly make more of an effort to pay attention to the relevant talk pages! Thank you for pinging me on Reddit! Johncrist1988 (talk) 03:15, 20 August 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]
