Wacom Tablet

I saw you struck through a paragraph of text and wrote that the section may now break someone's system. Can you be more specific? Can you add an external source? Also if it affects all systems, the section should just be removed. If not, a Template:Warning or possibly Template:Accuracy is preferred over just striking through text depending on why it may break someone's system. -- User:Rdeckard

Thank's for the advice, I am new to the wiki so still lots to figure out. Removing libwacom breaks gnome which lists it as a dependency. I'm not sure how it affects other desktop environments as I've not tested it. Pfc (talk) 05:39, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

I'm removing the section that suggests libwacom be removed. Although it is true that the library is not strictly necessary for correct operation of the tablet (that is to say, it is not a dependency of xf86-input-wacom), it *is* required by gnome-settings-daemon and libinput. Having it unnecessarily installed will not cause problems. Looking through the edit history, it appears that this suggestion first appeared when somebody changed "linuxwacom" to "libwacom". Unfortunately, this change was made in error. As outlined on the Linuxwacom Project Wiki, linuxwacom is a legacy driver for very old X server releases and libwacom is a tablet information library. The former was not "renamed" to the latter -- they're completely separate projects. I could revert the section back to its original text, but it would still be a useless piece of advice since the legacy "linuxwacom" driver won't even compile on a modern system: things have changed too much since 2009 when Xorg 1.6 was released.
