Use of section links in edit summaries

Hello, I've noticed that some of your recent contributions (e.g., Diff/687621) include the edit summary's message inside of /* and */. Please note that this syntax is reserved for linking to a section. So I would use

/* RStudio IDE */ Provide solution to RStudio starting up to blank screen; link to original bug-report on Arch Bugtracker. This bug could be quite confusing and difficult to alleviate on one's own.

instead of

/* RStudio IDE: Provide solution to RStudio starting up to blank screen; link to original bug-report on Arch Bugtracker. This bug could be quite confusing and difficult to alleviate on one's own. */

for writing that particular edit summary. See Meta:Help:Edit summary#Linking to a section for more information.

Hello, many thanks for pointing this out. I was apparently overly zealous on the keyboard after my new registration that I overlooked the corresponding etiquette. Sorry about this. And of course my appreciation for your many corrections of my rushed-out edits a posteriori!

Looking back at my previous summary-messages, I am able to locate many similar instances of wrong formatting. Considering the fact that you have already made edits on top of those of mine, I wonder if there is a way for me to safely reformat those summary-messages now without causing major havoc for the later changes from your side, i.e., similar to the effect of a interactive git-rebase. I would like to make good for my own mistakes of youth.

There's no easy way to change old edit summaries (as far as I know), but the ones you have already made still make it very clear what the purpose of the edit was. The section link syntax is mainly for convenience, so I wouldn't worry about trying to change those edit summaries. -- Flyingpig (talk) 00:41, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks for positively mentoring my first baby-steps contributing to the Wiki. I will make sure to better absorb the guideline for future edits. But that's in no way a guarantee that my posts would never again require further corrections from more experienced members like you ;) Cheers! -- Shengdichen (talk) Shengdi "shc" Chen 00:52, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
