VirtualBox Guest ISO

I saw that you re-edited the VirtualBox article after I reverted your previous edit. I don't think we should start an edit war, so I would like to clarify why I reverted the previous edit and still see issues with your new edit.

The main problem is that your edit is regarding a Windows guest, yet you added it to the section on Arch Linux guests. If there is some Windows-specific workaround that is required, I think you should move your edit to VirtualBox#Troubleshooting where there are already several such workarounds. Secondly, it seems to me that your workaround is not actually required since VirtualBox#Guest additions disc already describes how to get the guest additions ISO.

I see your point now, I was a little confused last night when I was struggling to get Guest Additions working in my Windows Guest. My host system is Arch and I didn't think the documentation for getting the ability to copy/paste from Host to Guest was explained very well so I merely wanted to make it easier for a noob like me to understand. I would like to keep my edit but realize I may have put it in the wrong location. What I want to add is not a workaround, it's how it is in Virtualbox installed in Arch. Clicking on the Devices pulldown and Insert Guest Additions CD wasn't working OR maybe it's just my lack of understanding and maybe it did work but I didn't know that the ISO was automagically mounted in my Windows Guest.

Since you are running Windows as a guest in an Arch Linux host, did you read VirtualBox#Installation steps for Arch Linux hosts? That already describes how to get the guest additions ISO by installing virtualbox-guest-iso. This contradicts your recommendation of downloading the ISO directly from the VirtualBox website. I think it's a bit confusing to have both recommendations in the article, especially in separate sections.

And as a minor style tip, most of the wiki is written in second person rather than first person. So instead of "I had to download the Guest Additions ISO..." it would be "You have to download the Guest Additions ISO...". This makes the wiki sound more authoritative, which is a good thing when someone comes here desperate for help :P

If you mount the ISO from the file path in /usr/lib/virtualbox/additions/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso manually (in the virtual machine properties or the device menu), it works just fine. Tried it with a Windows 7 VM. Added a sentence on this [1], closing. -- Alad (talk) 19:10, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

What I was trying to accomplish is to make it more apparent to the end user that clicking on Device > Insert Guest Additions ISO doesn't actually install the Guest Additions into the Win guest, the user must double click the executable within the guest and that's what's NOT very obvious in my opinion. Virtual machines can be confusing because there's the extension pack which is for the host OS and then you have the guest additions which is for the guest. In order to get things like resizing the window and getting copy/paste to work between the Host/Guest isn't as straight forward as i think it should be but i think we've spent enough time on this now and i'll drop it.
